Your competitive advantage

Every time I screen candidates for UN vacancies, I’m surprised by how many applications aren’t competitive.
Out of, let’s say 300 applications, I’d say 250 aren’t your competition.
It’s the top tier that you need to contend with. And only a fraction of those engage with their applications the way you do, so your true competition is now down to the top 10 to 15 candidates. This is where the competition gets fierce.
Still, you can’t worry about them, because you have no idea who they are or what they bring to the table.
Instead, focus on sharpening your own competitive advantages, in terms of your experience, skills, competencies - and of course, how you present yourself in the recruitment process.
