Your network called – it wants a deposit

Let’s keep going with our networking mini-theme, shall we?
One pattern I often see (in clients and myself) is how we avoid networking because we associate it with asking – for a lead, an intro, a favor. Usually from someone we sort of know, but not super well.
No wonder it feels a bit icky, especially after months (or years) of radio silence 😶
Then there's the overwhelm. How on earth do you stay in touch with everyone, just in case you might need something from someone someday?
Sound familiar?
If so, here's a reframe:
Build your network the way you build an emergency fund: small, steady deposits without knowing exactly when or why you'll need them.
Respond to a request. Comment meaningfully on a post. Send a quick note. Share a helpful resource. Celebrate someone's success (with more than a thumbs up!).
Not because you’re about to ask for something, but to connect, encourage, and stay top of mind.
Then let the magic of reciprocity and reputation do their thing.
People remember people who have been helpful. And when you’ve been generous and kind along the way, they're far more likely to return the favor, or even tap into their networks to help you when the time comes.
It doesn't have to take hours. It doesn't require big, heroic gestures. Just small, intentional actions on a semi-regular basis.
I recommend scheduling it in. That doesn't make it any less authentic.
Wishing you a meaningful deposit or two into your network before the end of the week ✨
