Overthinking your UN application?

UN job descriptions is a topic of recurring frustration.
Several of you have told me that while the job postings are long (lots of words), they don't necessarily have the information that would help you tailor your applications effectively (relevant info). I hear you want more specifics — what are the current challenges of the department? What skills would complement the team? Where is the team situated within the org structure?, etc.
These info gaps make the vacancies seem reserved for those already familiar with the inner workings of the team.
I hear you, BUT, in this case, I do believe you might be overthinking it.
Job postings are deliberately broad. They are meant to attract a variety of qualified candidates and are written to remain relevant over time, even as context and team members may change. You're not expected to know the internal minutiae before you even have your foot in the door.
You're only expected to customize your application for the job posting. Nothing else.
So, I'd encourage you to take a higher-level view when you apply. Focus on the skills and functions given to align your documents and save the finer details for the interview stage. It is quite common for an interview panel to give you a briefing about the role and the team and such before the questioning starts, and you can ask targeted questions about the things you're curious about – like the team, context, challenges, etc., at the interview as well.
Rest assured, the information you are given is sufficient for this stage of the process. For now, don't worry about all the things you don't know, and get those applications submitted!
